Petrina is an actor, based in Sydney, Australia. By the time “Sixth Scent” ripened in her mind as a story, she had been in the film environment long enough to believe she could make her own short film. So she did.

Sixth Scent is Petrina's first short film as Director. She was also the writer and producer on this project. With early childhood influences of a raw diet of English comedy (GO Benny!), her first film was never to be "too serious". There is however a darker side to the film, but that is nicely hidden behind the superficial appeal of the characters.

Petrina has been pro-actively involved in the independent film scene in Australia, predominantly working within Sydney and Melbourne on both short and feature projects with many more in the pipeline for 2002 and 2003. On Petrina’s website she writes that “I am always interested in collaborating on projects of interest with people who are prepared to give as much as I am”. That statement certainly summarises her approach to this exciting industry and an open-mindedness to opportunity.

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

This film grew from my intrigue with the ways that men and women preen and pose for each other. I wanted to explore, in a comical way, the possible reactions to a strong and unwelcome sexual advance from both the male and female perspective. And give an example of the fact that, in the end, we all get what we deserve out of every situation.

I am foremost interested in the craft of acting. Making my own film, albeit a short one, taught me more than I could ever have imagined about both film acting and filmmaking. As a creative process it has been the most rewarding one so far.

Sixth Scent was quite simply a lot of fun to make and I still cannot believe we did it. I say "we" because if there is one thing I have learnt it is that filmmaking is a collaborative process. For the cast and crew and the other people that collaborated on this project and gave me support and knowledge, I will be forever grateful.
