Sixth Scent has been invited to screen at Future Shorts, a monthly showcase of short films in West London, U.K.

This event aims to show entertaining short films from all over the world. The evening will be an opportunity to meet directors, producers, actors, writers, etc. It is the organizers' belief that sharing contacts and advice on low budget production will help all produce better films for less money. Finding the right people to work with, finding the right script, finding the right director, and how to do it all without serious cash. This is all information you can get free off other filmmakers.

The next screening is on Monday 27th October at 7pm. Future Shorts takes place at Ginglik, the bar on the Green at Shepherd's Bush opposite the Central line tube station.

 
The Funny Comedy Film Fest
  THE FUNNY COMEDY FILM FEST

Sixth Scent is coming out of its well deserved retirement to screen at The Funny Comedy Film Fest in São Paulo, Brazil.

The film will be shown as one of the finalists representing the Over The Fence Comedy Film Festival, the itinerant Australian event that has been taking place during most of the year. The 6th and 7th seasons of OTF will be screened as part of the highlights of the program in this Brazilian film festival. This will be Sixth Scent's South American premiere.

The Funny Comedy Film Fest takes place from 25th to 28th September in Osasco, São Paulo, Brazil.

 
Commonwealth Film Festival
  COMMONWEALTH FILM FESTIVAL

June 2003

Sixth Scent will be one of the films representing Australia at the Commonwealth Film Festival in Manchester, U.K.

The festival, that started last year as a cultural leader to the Commonwealth Games, will showcase around 200 new feature films, shorts and documentaries from many of the 72 nations of the Commonwealth. Sixth Scent will screen as part of "Carry on Commonwealth", the festival's strand of comedy films. This will be the film's premiere in Northern England.

Sixth Scent screens on Sunday 8th June from 4pm, in Cinema 2 at The Cornerhouse Cinema, Manchester, U.K.

 
Filmstock
  FILMSTOCK

June 2003

Sixth Scent will screen at Filmstock, an international film festival held every year in Luton, U.K. This very well could be the film's long due English premiere (after all they invented toilet humour!).

The spirit of this festival is best summed up in the following pledge by its organizers: "Filmstock is more than an annual film festival. It is about cinema in its entirety and aims to fuse the joys of movie going and the art of filmmaking in one simultaneous experience. It is for anyone who watches or makes films, for whatever reason".

Sixth Scent is to screen on Sunday 8th June from 1pm at the Hat Factory/Artezium, Luton, Bedfordshire, U.K.

 
WorldFest Houston
  WORLDFEST

April 2003

Sixth Scent will be screening at WorldFest, the 36th edition of the Houston International Film Festival in Texas, U.S.A.

The film has been nominated to receive one of the top awards in its category. WorldFest nominates only the four top entries and gives Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. With more than 4,500 entries in the 36th Annual WorldFest, including over 500 features and 1,500 shorts; to be selected for an award is therefore a very significant honour... from the festival that discovered Spielberg, Lucas and Lynch.

Sixth Scent screens on Sunday 13th April at 1pm at the Nova Meyerland Plaza Theater "C", located at Loop 610 West South and Beechnut, Houston, Texas.

 
SheppARTon Shorts
  SHEPPARTON SHORTS

Sixth Scent has been shortlisted as a finalist in the open category of SheppARTon Shorts, the film event of the SheppARTon Festival in Victoria.

The festival counts with many local and national categories. A total prize pool of over $5000 is offered for the best films. Tom Long, well-known Australian actor, is one of the event's patrons and judges. In its seventh year, the SheppARTon Festival features 25 separate events promising lots of art, food, wine and unique entertainment. Shepparton's Victoria Park Lake is to become the stage for Raising Dreams, an inspirational ceremony written specifically for this year's Lakeside Festival.

SheppARTon Shorts is scheduled on Friday 14th March at 8pm at the Eastbank Centre, Shepparton, Victoria.

 
Shorts Film Festival
  SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL

Sixth Scent is to make its South Australian debut at the Shorts Film Festival in Adelaide.

Founded by acclaimed feature film makers, Mario Andreacchio and David Lightfoot, Shorts Film Festival seeks to inspire and reward excellence, especially in the next generation of film makers, with first class relevant prizes. First prize is an all expenses paid trip to the Cannes Film Festival in 2003.

Sixth Scent's DVD screening is on Sunday 2nd March at the Garage, a converted motor garage and warehouse into a Bar/Bistro/Club in Light Square in the West End of Adelaide.

 
Mikrokino FEST
  MIKROKINO FEST

February 2003

Sixth Scent has been selected to compete at this year's edition of Mikrokino FEST, a short films festival held in Belgrade, Serbia.

This festival is organized by LOW-FI VIDEO (Belgrade-based organization promoting short, independent and alternative films). LOW-FI VIDEO was launched in 1997, and to this date it has screened hundreds of Serbian and foreign short films.

The festival's media sponsor www.harizma.com has granted Petrina Buckley the Best Actress Award. Sixth Scent's screening has been scheduled for Thursday 20th February at 8pm.

 
Over The Fence
  OVER THE FENCE

Sixth Scent starts the new year travelling across the "Wide Brown Land" as part of Over The Fence, one of the major comedy film festivals in Australia.

Kicking off in Perth, the festival will travel to some 30+ venues across the country - from major capitals and regional centres to smaller mining & farming towns. Screening 16 of the boldest, wildest and most extraordinary Australian-made short comedy films, ranging in content, form, style and humour - from animations, documentaries to dramas.

Playback
  PLAYBACK

Sixth Scent is to screen at Playback, a fundraising evening that will take place at La Bar in Sydney.

This is an event designed to draw together people from all walks of the entertainment industry for a great night of screenings, bands, djs and more. Ten films will be screened and there will be prizes for the winners. All proceeds will go to The Group Theatre and The Actors Studio for their upcoming productions.

Sixth Scent will be screening first at 7pm so be there on time. Friday 6th December at La Bar, 231 Oxford Street, Sydney.

 
Anything Goes
  ANYTHING GOES

Sixth Scent has been invited to compete at the Anything Goes short film festival in Brisbane, Queensland.

This is a short film competition held at Jamies Espresso Bar, the Brisbane institution located downstairs from Bellas Gallery. All competing films are to be screened in the carpark space at Jamies Espresso Bar. There are two categories, an open one and another one for student films with great prizes for the winners.

The event takes place on Friday 6th December at 8pm at Jamies Espresso Bar, Brisbane, Queensland.

 
Wetfest Cairns
  WETFEST CAIRNS

Sixth Scent has been selected to compete at Wetfest, which normally takes place as part of Cairns Celebration of Film in Northern Queensland.

This is an annual event in one of the most naturally spectacular tropical environments of Australia. It aims to entertain and enrich the community with a festival of film that nurtures filmmaking skills, cultural awareness and community values. It is a great opportunity for short Australian films to be seen in a city far away from the usual cultural venues of the Southern metropolis.

This year Wetfest coincides with the Yungaburra Folk Festival between October 25th and 27th.

 
Ausfest
  AUSFEST

Sixth Scent has been invited to compete at Ausfest, the Australian video and digital festival that takes place in Petrina's home town, the city of Brisbane.

This festival is open to many different categories, including features, shorts, documentaries, etc. Due to a record number of submissions from all over the world, the festival has increased the screening slots and number of works selected. Festival's activities start on Friday 18th October with most of the projections in competition taking place from Wednesday 23rd to Sunday 27th October.

Sixth Scent screens as part of Session 5 on Thursday 25th October at 6pm. Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Art, Brisbane.

 
LA Int'l Short Film Festival
  LA INT'L SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

Despite the very short notice, we are very glad to know that Sixth Scent will be competing at the LA Int'l Short Film Festival, which takes place in California between Tuesday 15th to Sunday 20th October.

This is a great place for the film's North American premiere, a traditionally difficult and very competitive market. Moreover, this event claims to be the largest festival of short films in The World; this year's festival will screen over 400 short films.

Sixth Scent's screening takes place as part of Program 28 on Friday 18th October at 7:45pm. Los Angeles Film School, Theater 4, California, U.S.A.

 
Canberra Short Film Festival
  CANBERRA SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

October 2002

Sixth Scent has been invited to compete at the 7th Canberra Short Film Festival that takes place in Australia's administrative and political capital from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th October.

This festival features three different categories, the national one, another one dedicated to young Canberra filmmakers and a third one open to the rest of Canberra's entrants. The winners are decided by public vote (as you would expect from people living in the nation's capital city!)

Sixth Scent's screening takes place on the opening night: Friday 11th October at 8:15pm. Screensound Australia Theatrette, McCoy Cct, Canberra.

 
In The Bin
  IN THE BIN

October 2002

Sixth Scent will screen in the "Best of the Rest" section of In The Bin in Currumbin, Queensland's Gold Coast. It is free to enter and there will be a hat going around for the Epilepsy Foundation.

The festival has wide support within the local community and attracts keen interest from the film industry. The finalists will screen in the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary parkland, on Saturday 5th October, from 7pm.

Sixth Scent and "Best of the Rest" screen on Wednesday 9th October at the Currumbin Surf Lifesaving Club, Gold Coast, Queensland. It will be the culmination of a long program of workshops, art, craft and music.

 
Short Trips
  SHORT TRIPS

Sixth Scent has been selected to compete for the Best Film Award of Short Trips, a short film competition that takes place as part of this year's edition of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Short Trips screens films on a monthly basis throughout the year but this competition is part of the Melbourne Fringe, one of the most popular festivals in Australia that is conformed by a wide range of artistic events and spectacles.

Sixth Scent's Victorian premiere takes place on Wednesday 2nd October at 9:30pm, Fringe Festival Club, The Basement, North Melbourne Town Hall, Cnr Queensberry & Errol Sts., Melbourne.

 
International Panorama
  INTERNATIONAL PANORAMA

Sixth Scent will have its Greek premiere at the 4th Panorama of Independent Film & Video Makers in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece. Organized by the Cinema Club of the Trade Union of Thessaloniki, this festival is very open to the maverick spirit of Independent Film Makers.

Last year 17 Greek films and 37 foreign films from 16 countries took part in the festival. Surrounded by the Balkans and the sea, Thessaloniki is the perfect scenario for cultural activities in the land of ancient philosophers and mythological gods.

The festival takes place from Sunday 29th September to Saturday 5th October at the Cinema Club of the Trade Union of Thessaloniki, Greece. Sixth Scent is scheduled to screen on Tuesday 1st October at 7pm.

 
Kaleidoscope
  KALEIDOSCOPE

Sixth Scent has been selected to compete at Kaleidoscope, Metro Screen's Short Film Festival that takes place from Monday 30th September to Friday 4th October.

Now in its fourth year, Kaleidoscope continues to offer massive opportunities to emerging filmmakers around Australia. By entering this fast growing national film festival, contestants can win from a prize pool of more than $40,000 worth of sponsorship. The first four evenings will take place at the Metro Screen Studio, while the final night showing the top 10 finalists will be at the Chauvel Cinema. Both venues are inside the Paddington Town Hall in Sydney.

Sixth Scent screens on Monday 30th September at 7pm. Metro Screen, Paddington Town Hall, Cnr. Oatley Rd and Oxford St., Paddington.

 
Festival Of New Film
  FESTIVAL OF NEW FILM

Sixth Scent has been selected for screening in the competition section at the 7th International Festival of New Film which will take place from September 21st to 28th in Split on the Adriatic coast of Croatia.

The festival is open to all new, innovative, personal, experimental, radical, subversive work (film, video, new media) of all genres and lengths, generally from outside the mainstream, whether it was made on shoe string budget or is a studio release. It is a great showcase for works involving traditional film techniques as well as the latest technology of electronic image.

Milano Film Festival
  MILANO FILM FESTIVAL

September 2002

Sixth Scent is to screen out of competition at the VII Edition of the Milano Film Festival which will take place in this Italian city from September 13th to 22nd.

This is an extremely competitive film festival which attracts more than a thousand entries each year. This newly created "out of competition" section is intended to provide the audience with a more global look on the young international cinema, one more chance to meet with the people who create images, stories and feelings and to give directors a chance to have their film screened and let people into their world of images.

This event will take place at the Teatro Studio, on Sunday 22nd September from 2:30pm, Milano, Italy.

 
Alternative Film Festival
  ALTERNATIVE FILM FESTIVAL

September 2002

Sixth Scent has been invited to screen in competition at the 3rd Edition of the Alternative Film Festival which takes place from September 7th to 14th in Picciano, a village in the province of Pescara, Italy.

This young but prestigious festival focuses on Italian and international cinema of an innovative nature and it features many different categories. Patrons of the festival include notorious names of the Italian film industry, such as director Giuseppe Tornatore and music composer Ennio Morricone. Last year the festival was won by another New Dark Ages production, Daniel Giambruno's Twitch. This year, Sixth Scent is among the top 20 finalists.

Filmfest Weiterstadt
  FILMFEST WEITERSTADT

Sixth Scent has been selected to screen at the Open Air Filmfest Weiterstadt in Hessen, Germany. It looks like this won't only be the film's European premiere but also its international one.

Now in its 26th year of existence, the Filmfest Weiterstadt is the oldest open air film festival in Germany. Filmmakers, who return year after year, whether they have a new film entry or not, love the Filmfest, not only because of the big audience but also because of the special atmosphere. Due to its unusual location in the forest and its popular character, it has been often described as the "Woodstock of Short Films".

Sixth Scent's screening is scheduled for Friday 16th August at around 3pm at the Filmzelt (General program starts at 1pm). Here's a map in case you wish to attend.

 
Sour Grapes
  SOUR GRAPES

July 2002

Sixth Scent's festivals round starts with style as a finalist of Sour Grapes. This is the second edition of this peculiar film festival that only accepts films that are either new (like Sixth Scent) or that haven't been accepted in other major festivals in Australia.

Films will be screened at the "Fox and Lion" for 5 nights starting on 22nd July through to 26th July. Finalists will be shown during the main event at the Horden Pavilion on Saturday 27th.

Sixth Scent's screening is on Saturday 27th at 6:30pm. Check in early as it is free entry and a huge crowd is expected. Horden Pavilion, Fox Studios Australia, Sydney.

 
Metro Production Group
  MPG SCREENING

July 2002

A special screening of Sixth Scent will take place as part of the monthly series organized by the Metro Production Group. The MPG is a group of enthusiastic film buffs who meet monthly to pitch new ideas, discuss works in-progress, share skills and resources and assist members to produce their own projects.

Ten short films made recently will be shown in the upstairs theatre. The session is followed by drinks and chat at the Chauvel bar. This is a great chance for fellow filmmakers in Sydney to see Sixth Scent prior to the film's festivals round.

The screening is on Tuesday 9th July at 6pm. RSVP essential as numbers are limited. Call Metro Screen on 9361 5318 to reserve places.
